The Founders

Dr. Caitlin O’Connell is an elephant scientist at Stanford University, and award-winning science writer and photographer. She started working with Namibian communities on elephant-human conflict in the 1990s, and has been studying elephants in the wild and training the next generation of conservation scientists for decades.

Dr. Tim Rodwell is a physician-scientist and award-winning photographer, and cut his teeth satellite tracking elephants and doing aerial censuses for the Namibia government in the 1990s. He serves as Chief Technology Officer and Scientific Advisor for Utopia Scientific’s long-running elephant field site in Namibia.
